ABSTRACT: This thesis examines the themes of migration, poverty, and social injustice in Ghassan Kanafani’s Men in the Sun and John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath through a comparative analysis based on the framework of New Historicism. The study is based on the assumption that literary texts reflect historical and social realities, additionally contribute to the construction and reproduction of these realities through dominant cultural and political discourses. In this context, the novels are examined together with their historical backgrounds, and the conditions that lead to migration, poverty, and social inequality are analysed. The study also explores symbolic elements and social dynamics in both novels, comparing the representations of forced and voluntary migration as well as the experiences of marginalized individuals and groups. The thesis concludes that migration in both novels is represented not simply as a geographical movement but as a complex human experience shaped by structural injustice. In addition, the study demonstrates that New Historicism and the comparative approach provide effective ways of understanding the relationship between literary texts and the historical and social contexts in which they were produced. In doing so, it highlights the role of literature in revealing and critically examining social realities.
