Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 21,4±4,0 yıl olup, %54,1’i kadın, %45,9’u erkektir.
T: This study was conducted using a descriptive cross-sectional design to determine Bingöl University students’ knowledge levels, usage patterns, and purposes regarding dietary supplements, as well as to examine the social, psychological, and nutritional factors influencing supplement use. The study sample consisted of 434 students enrolled at Bingöl University who voluntarily participated in the research. Data were collected using a 39-item questionnaire developed by the researcher based on the relevant literature. The questionnaire assessed participants’ sociodemographic characteristics, dietary habits, dietary supplement use, knowledge levels, and social and psychological factors. The mean age of the participants was 21.4 ± 4.0 years, of whom 54.1% were female and 45.9% were male. Of the participants, 41.2% reported engaging in regular physical activity, while 38.5% stated that they followed a regular dietary program. The prevalence of dietary supplement use was 23.0%, and the most frequently used supplements were omega-3, whey protein, and creatine. The primary purposes of supplement use were to increase muscle mass, gain strength, and improve athletic performance. A substantial proportion of students who used supplements reported experiencing positive changes in their training performance following supplement use. It was determined that 41.5% of the participants had knowledge of dietary supplements. The main sources of information were the internet, sports trainers, and doctors/dietitians. The influence of sports trainers on dietary supplement use was found to be greater than that of the participants’ social circles. In conclusion, although the prevalence of dietary supplement use among Bingöl University students was relatively low, the internet and sports trainers played important roles in supplement selection. Limited knowledge of dietary supplements and the need for greater consultation with healthcare professionals indicate that students should be supported in developing informed supplement-use practices. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of nutrition education programs for university students and to promote the informed use of dietary supplements.en_US
