Testing the Effects of Moisture on Seedcoat Color of Pinto Dry Beans
(2001)Seedcoat color is an important trait, as it affects marketing and consumer acceptance of pinto beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Pinto breeding line NE 94-4 showed seedcoat yellowing in on-farm field trials in Nebraska in ... -
Suppression of ethylene perception extends shelf-life and quality of ‘Sunrise Solo’ papaya fruit at both preripe and ripe stages of development
(2004)Papaya fruit (Carica papaya L. cv. ‘Sunrise Solo’) at pre-ripe (10 to 20 % surface yellow coloration) and ripe stages (70 to 80 % surface yellow coloration) of development were treated with 9 µl l–1 of the ethylene antagonist ... -
Suppression of ripening and softening of 'Galia' melon fruit by 1-methylcyclopropene applied at pre-ripe or ripe stages of development
(2005)`Galia' (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus L. Naud. `Galia') melons exhibit relatively short postharvest longevity, limited in large part by the rapid softening of this high quality melon. The present study was performed to ... -
Ripening and Quality Responses of Mamey Sapote Fruit to Postharvest Wax and 1-Methylcyclopropene Treatments
(2005)Mamey sapote (Pouteria sapote (Jacq.) H.E. Moore and Stearn) fruit is highly appreciated in the Caribbean region; however, marketable life is significantly limited by abrupt softening during postharvest handling. Postharvest ... -
Postharvest quality of grape tomatoes treated with 1-methylcyclopropene at advanced ripeness stages
(2006)Grape tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. ‘Santa’) harvested at light-red (>90% color) and full-red stages were treated with 1 µL·L–1 1-methylcyclopropene (1- MCP) for 24 hours at 20 °C and stored at 20 °C. After 1 ... -
Extended shelf life and quality of fresh-cut papaya (Carica papaya) derived from ripe fruit treated with the ethylene antagonist 1-methylcyclopropene
(2006)The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of ethylene action, via use of the ethylene antagonist 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), on the senescence and quality of fresh-cut ripe papaya (Carica papaya L. ... -
Physiology of fresh-cut ‘Galia’ (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus) from ripe fruit treated with 1-methylcyclopropene
(2007)Galia’ (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus L. Naud. cv. Galia) fruit were harvested at the three-quarter slip stage and treated with 1 L L−1 1- methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) at 20 ◦C for 24 h. The fruit were processed and stored ... -
Suitability of some mid-season table grape cultivars and types for minimally processed produce
(2008)Aims: The objectives of this study were to evaluate whether some midseason table grape cultivars and types can be used as minimally processed produce and to investigate the negative effects of minimal processing on the ... -
Maintaining quality of minimally processed pomegranate arils by honey treatments
(2009)Purpose – A major challenge facing the fresh-cut industry is maintaining and preserving the quality of minimally processed or fresh-cut produce. A low temperature regime, although insufficient, has been the main method ... -
Extending shelf life of fresh-cut persimmon by honey solutions dips
(2010)Ripe persimmon fruit (Diospyros kaki L) cv. “Hachiya” were diced, then treated with 10–20% w/v diluted honey solution or water as the control, followed by cold storage at 4C until loss of acceptable quality. The ... -
Measuring electrochemical fruit quality of refrigerated ‘Hanita’ plum by Bioelectric Vincent method
(2011)‘Hanita’ plums were stored at 0, 5 and 12°C for up to 15 days plus 1 day at 25°C to investigate the temperature effects on particularly electrochemical parameters measured by Bioelectric Vincent method, and on physical and ... -
Cell wall modification in 1-methylcyclopropene-treated post-climacteric fresh-cut and intact papaya
(2011)Papaya is a climacteric fruit in which ripening is greatly regulated by ethylene often associated with stress responses such as wounding. The changes in cell wall compositions in papaya fruit at an advanced stage of ... -
Postharvest quality of ‘Galaxy’ apple fruit in response to kaolin-based particle film application
(2012)Kaolin-based film as Surround WP® was applied to ‘Galaxy’ apple trees to evaluate its effects on postharvest fruit quality. Following harvest, the Surround WP® on the fruit skin was either wiped off, or left unwiped, ... -
Efficacy and inefficacy of refrigerated storages on some physical, physiochemical and electrochemical properties for organically-grown ‘Royal Glory’ and ‘Redhaven’ peaches
(2012)The study focused on organically-grown ‘Royal Glory’ and ‘Redhaven’ peaches, with the aim to evaluate some physical, physiochemical and electrochemical quality indices during and after refrigerated storages at 0, 5 and ... -
Use of Aloe Vera gel as biopreservative for ‘Granny Smith’ and ‘Red Chief’ apples
(2012)The aim of this work was to study effects of Aloe vera gel (0, 1, 5 and 10% w/v) coating on green-coloured ‘Granny Smith’ and red-coloured ‘Red Chief’ apples those were stored at 2 °C for 6 months. Aloe vera gel treatments ... -
