Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic effects having
Ellagic acid ( 2,3,7,8-tetrahidroksil {[}1] benzapiranol {[}5,4,3-CDE]
{[}1] benzopiran-5, 10-dione) pomegranate, raspberry, strawberry, many
fruits such as grapes and walnuts grained derivative is a substance
found in vegetable polyphenols. Aluminum is known to cause toxic effects
on variety organ systems. In this study, the effect of ellagic acid on
the liver of rats against oxidative stress induced by aluminum chloride
(AlCl3) was investigated. Adult male Sprague-dawley rats were randomly
divided in four groups. Control the first group, the second group
Ellagic acid group, the third group AlCl3 group, the fourth group was
used as AlCl3 + Ellagic acid. Ellagic acid 12 mg/kg dose with the
orogastric probe and AlCl3 8.3 mg/kg intraperitoneal was administered as
a 55 days every other day. Glutathione (GSH) in the liver,
malondialdehyde (MDA), vitamin E levels and glutathione peroxidase
(GSH-Px) and catalase ( CAT) activities were determined. While
administration of AlCl3 increased the MDA level and CAT activity, it
decreased the GSH-Px activity in liver compared those of the control
group. The effect of ellagic acid to AlCl3-treated rats decreased the
MDA levels and increased GSH, GSH-Px and CAT activities in these
samples. According to the data we obtained, a result AlCl3 application
against oxidative damage in the liver, which has the potential
protective effect of ellagic acid, can be said.

The oxidative stress, depending on many factors in the etiology of
developing cancer caused by reactive oxygen species, plays an important
role. In our study, 7, 12-dimethylbenz-{[}a]anthracene (DMBA) was
applied in Guinea Pigs, the alpha lipoic acid (alpha-LA) has antioxidant
properties was investigated protective role against to levels of macro
and trace elements in brain In experiments: totally 24 adult male Guinea
Pigs were randomly divided into 4 equal groups (control, DMBA, alpha-LA
and DMBA+alpha-LA) containing same numbers. As a result of the analysis
in Guinea Pigs brain with the aid of ICP-AES: it was found that the
level of calcium from macro elements in DMBA group increased according
to control group (P &lt; 0.01) and decreased in DMBA+alpha-LA group (P &lt;
0.01). that was in the same levels with control group Magnesium
decreased in DMBA group according to control group (P &lt; 0.01) and
DMBA+alpha-LA group and increased in close level of control group.
Regarding trace elements, it was seemed that copper levels compared with
the control group decreased in DMBA group (P &lt; 0.01) and DMBA+alpha-LA
group, it was same level with control group. It was observed that the
level zinc decreased according to control group in DMBA group (P &lt; 0.01)
and increased in DMBA+alpha-LA group (P &lt; 0.01). In addition, it was
obtained that levels of iron and manganese in between groups were not
significant (P &gt; 0.05). As a result, it can be said that from the point
of macro and trace elements, the lipoic acid (alpha-LA) was indicated
neuroprotective effect for protection of important organs such as brain
from the oxidative stress.

<description>Effects of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Fertilization on Micro Nutrient
Contents of Trifolium angustifolium and Lotus suaveolens from Fabaceae
on a Grassland Ecosystem: the Case of Kahramanmaras, Eastern
Mediterranean Region of Turkey
Demirkiran, A. R. and Uslu, O. S.
This study examined the effectiveness of various grass plants as
Trifolium angustifolium and Lotus suaveolens from Fabaceae to fertilizer
treatments (N+P fertilization) to encourage the micro nutrition of this
vegetation. Micro nutrient contents of this vegetation were determined
annually in 2002 and 2003. Experimental plots received rains of 606.3
and 857.5 mm during the 2 study years compared to mean growing season
rainfall of 729.8 mm. Micro nutrient contents of these grass plants were
increased significantly by nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers
application. Contents of micro nutrients after nitrogen and phosphorus
fertilizer treatments, it is determined and ordered for Lotus suaveolens
Cu&gt;Fe&gt;Zn&gt;Mn and for Trifolium angustifolium Cu&gt;Fe = Mn&gt;Zn. Nitrogen and
phosphorus chemical fertilizers influence both micro nutrient mobility
and bioavailability and the effects to these plants may be different.
