Electrochemical investigation of 5,5’-(pyrimidine-4,5-diyl)bis(1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine) films on mild steel in acidic media
Abstract
In this study, a mild steel specimen was exposed to 1 M HCl solution in the absence and presence of 1.0 mM 5,5’-(pyrimidine-4,5-diyl)bis(1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine) (PBTA) for 1 hour and corrosion protective properties of a film of the organic compound formed on the mild steel surface was electrochemically investigated. For this aim, the change of open circuit potential as a function of exposure time (Eocp-t), potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization resistance (LPR) techniques were used. It was found that PBTA forms a very protective organic film on the steel surface. The inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor was higher than 95%. This inhibitor acts by reducing the rates of both anodic metal dissolution and cathodic hydrogen evolution reactions.
