Lice (Diyarbakır) Yöresinde Doğal Yetişen Badem (P. Amygdalus) Tiplerinin Seleksiyonu
Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Almond is a plant with high economic value due to its versatile uses. Although Turkey's ecological conditions are quite favorable for almond cultivation, the inadequacy of standard varieties and the fact that production is largely carried out with trees grown from seed prevent almond production from reaching the desired level throughout the country. Almond selection is a critical method that allows for the evaluation of local genetic resources and the development of productive and high-quality varieties. Selection studies conducted in Turkey are particularly important in terms of revealing the morphological and agronomic characteristics of varieties in natural populations.
In the first year of the study, 110 almond types were determined within the existing population, taking into account the UPOV (International Union for the Protection of New Plant Varieties) criteria. Among these, 24 almond types with a kernel weight greater than 0.90 g were considered promising. Within the scope of the study, the type with the highest average kernel weight was (LC017) with 4.63 g, and the type with the lowest average kernel weight was (LC068) with 0.90 g. The lowest average shell weight among the selected almond types was 3.24 g for type (LC106), and the highest average shell weight was 8.71 g for type (LC094). The lowest average shell length among the selected almond types was 29.60 mm for type (LC003), and the highest average shell length was 41.77 mm for type (LCO26). The lowest average shell width among the selected almond types was 17.1 mm for type (LC106), and the highest average shell width was 25.78 mm for type (LC062). The lowest average shell thickness among the selected almond types was 11.92 mm for type (LC106), and the highest average shell thickness was 18.17 mm for type (LCO94). The lowest average kernel percentage among the selected almond types was observed in type (LC094) (10.68%), while the highest average kernel percentage was observed in type (LC017) (76.78%). The first flowering in the selected almond types was observed between February 25th and March 5th. Full flowering occurred between February 29th and March 10th. Flowering ended between March 5th and 15th. The harvest took place on August 18th.
Such studies in the Lice region will contribute to improving the productivity and quality of almond cultivation in the area, while also supporting the conservation of local genetic resources and the dissemination of sustainable agricultural practices.
