Abstract

ABSTRACT: Widespread use of low carbon steels and prolonging their useful life in the environment in which they are used are of great importance. Many studies have been carried out to improve the surface properties of these steels and many studies are ongoing. In this study, production methods with good wear resistance, low cost and easier coating have been developed in terms of surface properties by coating AISI 1020 steel surface with Ni/Ti and Ni/Ti –SiC powders by self-combustion synthesis method using induction ignition system. The surface of low carbon steels of AISI 1020 steel is made with different composite powders by induction heating method. The wear and microstructure properties of the described surfaces were investigated. The surfaces of the low carbon steels are made sense by adding the powders of the SiC alloy, the proportions of which vary with the 25 gr NiTi ratio. After the surface alloying process, technology research methods such as scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-rays (XRD) point analysis (EDS), optical microscope were used to examine the microstructure of the alloy surface. Abrasive wear tests were performed on pin-on-disc, adhesive wear tests were performed on block-on- disc apparatus. Microhardness values were measured on the alloyed surface. The obtained results were discussed by comparing with the literature.
