Hattat Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı’nın Seçilmiş Bazı Eserleri Üzerinde Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

ÖZET: Hat sanatı, Kur’ân ı Kerim’in yazıya geçirilmesiyle birlikte şekillenmeye başlayan ve zaman içerisinde estetik, düşünsel ve ahlaki boyutlar kazanarak gelişen köklü bir sanat dalıdır. Türk İslâm kültüründe önemli bir ifade alanı hâline gelen bu sanat, kamış kalem, is mürekkebi ve aharl ı kâğıt gibi geleneksel malzemeler aracılığıyla icra edilmekle birlikte, yalnızca yazının aktarımını değil, aynı zamanda estetik ölçüleri ve sanat anlayışını da yansıtan bir kültürel miras niteliği taşımaktadır. Bu çalışma, Türk İslâm sanatlarının temel alanlarından biri olan hüsn i hat sanatını merkeze alarak, Cumhuriyet döneminin önde gelen hattatlarından Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı’nın hayatı, sanat anlayışı ve bazı eserlerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada, Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyet’e geçiş sürecinde hat sanatının karşılaştığı değişimler ve bu değişimlerin sanat üzerindeki etkileri ele alınmış; söz konusu süreçte Halim Özyazıcı’nın üstlendiği rol değerlendirilmiştir. Sanatkâr, sülüs, nesih ve ta‘lik gibi klasik yazı türlerindeki ustalığının yanı sıra, Cu mhuriyet döneminde Latin harfleriyle gerçekleştirdiği çalışmalar ve grafik tasarım alanındaki faaliyetleriyle de dikkat çekmiştir. Bu yönüyle Halim Özyazıcı, geleneksel hat anlayışını modern dönemin imkânlarıyla birleştirerek sanata özgün bir boyut kazandı rmıştır. Ayrıca yetiştirdiği talebeler ve verdiği eğitimler aracılığıyla hüsn i hat sanatının devamlılığına katkı sağlamış, sanat ahlakı ve estetik değerlerin aktarılmasında etkili olmuştur. Çalışmanın temel hedefi, Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı’nın sanatını, baz ı eserlerini ve Türk hat sanatına kazandırdığı yenilikleri ortaya koymaktır. Bu doğrultuda literatür taraması yapılmış; sanatçıya ait kataloglar, koleksiyonlar ve akademik çalışmalar incelenmiş, ayrıca dönemin sanat ortamı ve sanatçının eserleri üzerinden değerlendirmelerde bulunulmuştur. Elde edilen veriler, Halim Özyazıcı’nın yalnızca usta bir hattat olmanın ötesinde, Cumhuriyet döneminde hat sanatının yeniden şekillenmesinde belirleyici bir sanatkâr olduğunu göstermektedir. Sonuç olarak bu tez, Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı’nın hayatı ve eserleri ekseninde hüsn-i hat sanatının tarihsel gelişimine ışık tutmakta ve sanatçının Türk-İslâm estetik geleneğine sunduğu katkıları ortaya koymaktadır. Böylece hem sanat tarihi hem de kültürel miras açısından önemli bir ismin sanatı kayıt altına alınarak gelecek kuşaklara aktarılması hedeflenmektedir.

ABSTRACT: Calligraphy is a deeply rooted art form that began to take shape with the transcription of the Holy Qur’an and gradually developed by acquiring aesthetic, intellectual, and ethical dimensions. Within Turkish Islamic culture, it has become a significant means of expression, representing not only the transmission of text but also a cultural heritage that embodies artistic principles and aesthetic values. Executed with traditional materials such as reed pens, soot based ink, and burnished paper, calligraphy reflects a long standing artistic tradition. This study focuses on the art of hüsn i hat , one of the fundamental branches of Turkish Islamic arts, and examines the life, artistic approach, and works of Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı, one of the prominent calligraphers of the Republican period.The research addresses how calligraphy was re interpreted under changing conditions during the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and evaluates the role undertaken by Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı in this process. In addition to his mastery of classical script styles such as sülüs , nesih , and taʿlîq , Özyazıcı attracted attention through his works produced with the Latin alphabet and his contributions to the field of graphic design during the Republican era. In this respect, he endowed calligraphy with a distinctive identity by combining tradit ional practices with the possibilities of the modern period. Furthermore, through the students he trained and the art education he provided, he contributed to the continuity of calligraphy and played a significant role in transmitting artistic ethics and a esthetic understanding to subsequent generations. The primary aim of this study is to reveal Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı’s artistic vision, his works, and the innovations he introduced to Turkish calligraphy. Accordingly, a comprehensive literature review was conducted, including catalogues, collections, and academic studies related to the artist. In addition, eval uations were made based on the artistic milieu of the period and an analysis of Özyazıcı’s works. The findings indicate that Halim Özyazıcı was not only a master calligrapher but also an influential artist who played a decisive role in the reshaping of ca lligraphy during the Republican period.In conclusion, this thesis sheds light on the historical development of calligraphy through the life and works of Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı and highlights his contributions to the Turkish Islamic aesthetic tradition. Thus, the study aims to document the art of an important calligrapher in terms of both art history and cultural heritage and to ensure its transmission to future generations.
