Çîrokeke Nîvcomayî: Şewêş
Abstract
This study analyzes "Şewêş," written by Fûad Temoyî in 1913, which holds the distinction of being the first short story in Kurdish literature. Published in the journal Roji Kurd, the story remains unfinished as its continuation was never printed. Focusing on the dramatic depiction of a poor, orphaned ten-year-old boy and his shepherd father, the narrative portrays the harsh social realities of its era. Utilizing Edgar Allan Poe’s literary concept of the "unity of effect," this article evaluates how the author skillfully evokes a continuous and powerful emotional response of pity and empathy from the reader, demonstrating that the story's incomplete nature does not diminish its cohesive emotional impact and structural success.
